Evaporate with precision
We design, supply and install Thin Film Evaporation systems and components
Custom E-beam evaporation solutions for thin film deposition
Vactec designs and supplies electron beam evaporator systems for high-precision thin film deposition in research and high-tech industrial environments. Our systems are engineered for process stability, vacuum integrity and long-term reliability. From compact R&D tools to fully automated E-beam PVD systems, each installation is configured around the specific technical requirements of your process.
We support the complete trajectory: engineering, installation, commissioning, training and upgrades of existing thin film equipment.
What is an electron beam evaporator?
An electron beam evaporator is a high-vacuum deposition system in which a focused electron beam heats and evaporates source material. The evaporated atoms travel through the vacuum chamber and condense onto a substrate, forming a thin and uniform film.
Because the electron beam enables extremely high localized temperatures, the technology is particularly suitable for high melting point materials and processes that demand high film density and purity. Deposition rate and layer thickness can be controlled accurately, which makes E-beam evaporation widely used in optical, semiconductor and advanced material applications.
Engineered around your process
At Vactec, an E-beam evaporator is not a standard catalogue product. System architecture is defined by process parameters such as vacuum level, material characteristics, substrate configuration and automation requirements.

Configuration possibilities
Depending on the application, E-beam evaporation systems can be configured with:
- Single or multi-pocket crucibles
- Multiple electron beam guns
- Substrate heating and rotation
- Quartz crystal thickness monitoring
- Load lock systems
- PLC-based automation and process control
Systems may be delivered as stand-alone E-beam evaporators or integrated into a broader PVD platform. Chamber dimensions, pumping concepts and control architecture are always tailored to the intended process.
Applications
Electron beam evaporation is applied in environments where precision and repeatability are essential. Typical application areas include:
- Optical coating production
- Compound semiconductor development
- Solar and LED research
- Aerospace component coating
- University and industrial R&D laboratories
Whether the focus is research flexibility or controlled production output, the system design is adapted accordingly.
Integration and upgrades
Many customers already operate thermal evaporation or PVD systems. Vactec supports the integration of E-gun sources into existing vacuum chambers and assists with vacuum optimization and control system upgrades.
With a pragmatic and cost-effective approach, we evaluate installed equipment and propose technically feasible improvements that enhance performance and extend operational lifetime.
An experienced partner in thin film deposition
Vactec combines long-term industry experience with a practical engineering mindset. We have supported high-tech companies and research institutes in the design and optimization of thin film evaporation systems and have trained more than 200 engineers in vacuum and deposition technology.
You may expect an experienced partner at the table who understands both the process and the equipment behind electron beam evaporation.
